The mission of Another Chance: House of Refuge (ACHR) is to empower underserved individuals to reach their fullest potential. ACHR provides the following:
Another Chance works with other community organizations in formulating, collaborative ideas, goals and objectives that will move the community forward.
ACHR is always seeking opportunities to partner with other organizations and individuals to promote lasting change within the community.
Provide daily household items and toiletries to offsite cost of living expenses
Facilitate a Food & Nutrition program by providing nutritional foods along with maintaining onsite community garden
Provide case management to Mecklenburg County residents as part of the Strategic Violence Prevention Program
Sponsor quarterly Community Giveback Events to assist with lack of resources and lack of financials to sustain self-sufficiency in the community.
Founded in November 2019, Another Chance is led by Shakieta Maloye, Executive Director. Another Chance has made great impact in a little time. As a community leader, Ms. Maloye has accumulated over 10 years of community development and engagement experience working on behalf of marginalized and disadvantaged citizens in the local community.
She has a deep compassion for suffering humanity and has often led the charge for raising the community’s conscious awareness around social issues that impact our less enfranchised citizens. Ms. Maloye is a focused and principle driven individual. Character and integrity are the hallmark of all her personal and business relationships. She believes that compassion, wisdom, discipline, and strategic awareness are qualities that cannot be compromised in building anything of substance. These are the very principles upon which she founded Another Chance: Hose of Refuge.
At Another Chance House of Refuge, our work is guided by a strong leadership team and supported by a dedicated network of volunteers.
Our Chief Executive Officer provides vision and direction for the organization, while the Director of Operations ensures that daily programs and community partnerships run smoothly. The expertise of our Clinical Social Worker helps us deliver compassionate care, counseling, and support to those we serve, and our Executive Assistant keeps the organization coordinated and connected.
Beyond our core staff, we are uplifted by a large number of volunteers whose time, skills, and passion strengthen every aspect of our mission. Together, this team works tirelessly to create opportunities, provide housing stability, and build hope within our community.
